Logbook: Day 1

Today the star ship, the brand new candy apple red SUV of Angela, starts on a maiden voyage of adventure. Inside, Angela driving of course. And then there’s me Caroline as her road buddy.

I longed to start blogging again to connect with you. Second reason was to share my stories. This is one of them. I wanted to capture our drive out west from Ottawa, Ontario to Calgary, Alberta. 3339 kms or 2073 miles when I googled it.

My friendship with Angela started in April 2013 when we both signed up for a Todd Norion workshop. I wanted to go for pho soup, my favourite, after the first night of the workshop. I looked around in the Prana Shanti yoga centre reception area and saw Angela sipping on the complimentary herbal tea. I noticed her because we had been practicing for a long time in the same yoga classes but I had never formally met her.

I stepped out of my comfort zone that day and asked her to join me for pho. She said “yes!” and it was with an exclamation mark because she had hoped that she would meet someone at the workshop to hang out with. She loves pho too by the way.

That was the beginning of a great friendship, taking the teacher training together, providing my second “home” when I was in Ottawa, helping me test out truffles and other food (what are good friends for?!), binging on net flicks while muching on popcorn, and eating lots of pho at Saigon Boy (my fav place in town). We have gone through the many ups and downs of life through the years and I know we’ve both grown so much along the way.

Today we are setting out on a physical journey as Angela transitions to a new chapter of her life in Calgary. I’m thrilled for her.  A great partner, a wonderful new job, a lovely condo apartment, and being closer physically to her family who I have come to know on Skype over the years.

I am in a transitional period too after publishing the Accidental Chef book. I celebrate these accomplishments but being goal driven and curious and excited about so many things,  in particular serving more and more people, this is not the end for me. It’s one peak that I’ve climbed and am proud of, but it’s the journey that is so exciting for me. I know there are many chapters ahead of me. I will write more on this later but suffice to say that both Angela and I are writing new chapters so to speak and I am so excited!

I’m not sure what will develop on the road, who really know, but as always I’ll share the journey with you with great joy and gratitude for those of you who happen on this blog and for amazing friends that carry you to new places. Love you, Caroline xoxox
