I’m curious about decision-making because sometimes I’ve had difficulties making decisions, especially when it’s about me. I’ve been observing how I make decisions and writing about this lately, which I share to solidify what I have learned and in case it can help others.

I realize when I make a decision, it’s like going to a store to see what I want to buy or farmers market. I look at everything first, to see what is out there, to see what I like most, and taste in some instances, and then come back to pick up what I really want.

Though, sometimes, I am so blown away by something that I have to buy it, I know right away, there is no thinking about it, it’s a “f*ck yes”.

By the way, I didn’t coin the “f*ck yes”. I’m borrowing it and using it more and more in my life, not publically but more in my head if you’re wondering. It comes from Mark Mason who wrote the New York Times million best-selling book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck.

Mark was inspired from a Derek Sivers who says,”if you’re not saying “HELL YEAH!” about something, say “no”. Tim Ferris says Derek Sivers is “one of my favorite humans, and I call him often for advice. Think of him as a philosopher-king programmer, master teacher, and merry prankster. Originally a professional musician and circus clown (he did the latter to counterbalance being introverted), Derek created CD Baby in 1998. It became the largest seller of independent music online, with $100 million in sales for 150,000 musicians.”

Perhaps this is what we are looking for in our lives. The moments when our spirits leap forward before our brains can come in and tell us why we can’t do something or buy it because, well there are so many reasons. We are already there, like a dog to a bone or a child to a shiny object, in our glory, power, and we shine because we are happy. That’s how I am starting to live my life more and more.

What are your “f*ck yes”, or a kinder version of this but will wake you up, moments? Those are the very moments we need to pay attention to because we get lost in these moments and are not paying attention because we are present and alive, a good thing. There is gold in those hills. Put on your boots and get going!
